Dodging both Breaker and his attacks was no easy feat for Aaron. He was immediately put on the defensive, trying his best to evade any sort of damage. He tried zig zagging his way toward Breaker in an effort to move around any bolts sent his way.
“I see I’m going to have to try a different method,” Breaker said before fading from Aaron’s sight.
“No,” Aaron stopped. “Not good!” He looked around.
“No, it is not,” said Breaker behind him. Aaron tried his best to move away from the attack, but Breaker grazed his arm, briefly incapacitating him. The slight shock made it difficult to dodge the next attack as well.
“You said you wouldn’t make this easy,” Breaker said, clasping his hands together, electricity sparkling around them. He swung at Aaron, this time making more contact and eliciting a groan from his opponent.
“I’m trying not to!” Aaron angrily shouted, his eyes glowing, sending a psychic wave straight for Breaker’s head. It swung back violently, causing Breaker to stumble. However, his mental protection was stronger than Aaron had counted on.
“That he won’t work forever,” Breaker smiled, wiping blood from his nose. Aaron dashed toward him, preparing himself for hand to hand combat, when Breaker disappeared again. “You keep trying to incapacitate me telepathically. However…” He appeared next to Aaron and disappeared again. “You’re not faster than me,” he said from behind Aaron, pushing him and sending a course of electricity through his body. Aaron yelled in pain.
“Can’t keep doing this…” he thought to himself. Aaron tried not to stay down for long, but he wasn’t sure he had the strength to stand. Breaker steadily approached him.
“I’m giving you another chance. Give up this fight and I will leave.”
“Nah,” Aaron replied, wobbling to his feet. “Too damn curious,” he smiled. Breaker did not seem happy to face such a persistent opponent. Suddenly, Aaron’s expression changed as he sent a small telepathic wave at Breaker.
“Just wondering,” he said as Breaker lost his balance, “How many of ‘me’ do you see?”
“That wasn’t a strong attack,” Breaker swayed in his crouched position.
“But it was enough. Your mental defenses aren’t perfect.” Aaron kept sending waves into Breaker’s head, steadily overwhelming his defenses.
“Neither are your abilities,” Breaker stared him in the eyes. In an instant, he created an electrical field extending out from his body. The force was enough to send Aaron flying. Aaron had to concentrate on keeping himself protected, but found it hard to do so as a result of the surprise attack. As he landed, he used as much telekinesis as he could muster. There were no broken bones, but definitely bruises. As he raised himself up, he saw Campbell in the distance.
“Run…” he sent a weak message to his boyfriend. Campbell just stood by, smiled, and shook his head.
“But I don’t feel I can do this…” Aaron responded telepathically. Campbell frowned and made a devious smile. Aaron knew what he was saying: Quit being so damn stubborn and listen to me; you got this.
“How are you even conscious?” Breaker said, approaching Aaron.
“That was a weak ass attack,” Aaron replied.
“So damn proud.” Breaker shook his head. “I don’t want to fight you. You’ve forced my hand. I could put you down or put you out. If you keep fighting, you know what I’ll be forced to do.”
“Just tell me why you’re here. Why are you spying on me?”
“I told you. I can’t tell you.”
“I can make you,” Aaron said making his eyes glow.
“You can’t make me do anything. If you try, you won’t live to talk about it.”
“Watch me!” He used as much telekinetic energy as he could to send Breaker flying. As he braced himself to continue the fight, he noticed a faint glimmer around him. Soon, the scene changed. The daylight faded to a night sky. They were no longer on campus, but somewhere he’d never seen before. The distraction gave Breaker time to catch his breath.
“What kind of trick is this?! You can cast illusions?”
“No… I can’t?” He knew he couldn’t do things like this. Who could? “Wait a second. What all do you know about me? Why would that have been a surprise?” Aaron asked. But, before Breaker could respond--
“I saw you fighting, figured you could use my help,” a woman’s voice echoed around them. “I don’t have the psychic powers to make him believe he’s in an illusion. My powers focus more on using light.”
“Where are you? Who are you?”
“Now isn’t the time for that. I think you have a fight to win.”
“Right. And you may not have psychic abilities, but I do. You just gave me a damn good idea.”
So exciting! Great ending, by the way.
